About the position:
We are looking for a dedicated, dynamic, compassionate, innovative and inspiring teacher to join our school family. A person with integrity, the successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students to make a difference in the lives of others while working hard and having fun. King David is a young and growing school with approximately 260 students and 50 staff members.  

We are looking for an educator who will thrive in a relational setting and will support and implement a competency-based approach to teaching while caring for and supporting students’ emotional well-being and development. The specific courses and teaching schedule will be determined depending on the successful candidate’s skills to best meet both the teacher and school’s needs.

The successful candidate will have a love of English and joy for teaching adolescents. We are looking for candidates who truly want to use their passion to make a difference in the lives of our students. You must value diversity as it relates to all people, including aspects of identity, and have respect for indigenous traditions and ways of knowing. We also want you to know that you will be a valued and cared for member of our school team.

Requirements for the position:

  • Be certified to teach in British Columbia with a university degree in this teaching discipline
  • A documented ability to teach with kindness and flexibility to support students in their learning

About the position:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Jewish Studies educator capable of inspiring adolescents to love learning and Judaism. The successful candidate will join a Judaic Studies team that focuses on nurturing each student’s unique talents and passions, empowering them to express and act upon their best interests. The immersive Jewish experience creates a clear path to Jewish conviction, pride, and identity. Our program encourages students to come to terms with relevant Jewish issues and aims to instill the belief that you can be as moral and holy as you are successful. All of this takes place within an inclusive community that provides a feeling of belonging and an awareness of personal responsibility. You must value diversity as it relates to all people, including aspects of identity, and have respect for indigenous traditions and ways of knowing. Our mission is to help Jewish teenagers, from all backgrounds, embrace Jewish values and traditions as they develop their independence and desire to live a meaningful life.

This position has 3 components. The successful candidate will have the knowledge to teach Judaic Studies content courses, Hebrew language courses and will be responsible to coordinate Jewish Life and Engagement activities in the school.

Requirements for the position:

  • A documented ability to teach with kindness and flexibility to support students in their learning
  • A desire to always improve one’s teaching practice and the learning experience for students
  • Able to demonstrate excellent skills as a teacher and a passion for teaching Jewish Studies
  • Must have a solid knowledge of classical Jewish thought and texts and can teach their relevance to the modern world
  • Must be fluent in Hebrew with a background or experience in teaching Hebrew language
  • Ability to work in, and contribute to, a pluralistic Jewish setting
  • Has a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Jewish Studies educator and has good classroom management skills appropriate for high school
  • Assist in collaborating and further developing the Judaic team’s vision and curricular goals
  • Able to use technology to support students’ learning
  • Willing to be involved with co-curricular school events and Jewish life programming
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in written form, with students, colleagues, parents and community members of all levels of observance and backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A BC Teaching Certificate or a Jewish Studies Degree, or Jewish Education training, or related field, enabling one to become certified to teach in a BC high school setting
