Throughout the week, King David staff and students have celebrated Spirit Week – a week of themed non-uniform days accompanied by fun events in the Atrium at lunch.
Organized every year by Student Council, Spirit Week is intended to raise students’ spirits, and get them involved with the school community. This year, Student Council had the extra goal of spreading chesed in the wider community and organized a drive to collect much-needed items. Winter clothes, toys, sports equipment, snacks, and non-perishable food items will be donated to organizations helping those in need this winter.
Thank you to our Student Council for spreading the cheer, and to all the staff and students who dressed up for each theme and contributed to the item drive.

AN EARLY HANUKKAH CELEBRATION
Our school gathered at the end of the day for a special assembly where each grade participated in the lighting of the Hanukkiah, singing the Shabbat songs, making kiddush, and ending with a special treat…Even though Hanukkah does not start until Sunday evening, Rabbi Berger and his wife, Sarah, drove to Seattle to treat us to our special King David tradition of Krispy Kreme donuts.
The school was filled with songs, students’ arms around each other, and a warm feeling. All this took place in front of our large cardboard Menorah which has been filled to the brim with donations from our school families. Thank you everyone for our community spirit!

This Wednesday, every person in the school was treated to delicious latkes with homemade apple sauce and sour cream prepared by Hilit’s Senior Foods class.
If you would like to recreate this experience at home during Hanukkah, watch the video below of Maddy Stern, Class of 2022, making Hilit’s latkes!

STUDENTS BRING HANUKKAH LIGHT TO LOUIS BRIER
On Thursday, the Music 12 students spent their lunch hour at Louis Brier and brightened the residents’ day with a lively Hanukkah setlist. Ori Haber opened the show with four solo songs while the rest of the band set up. We are especially proud of the students’ willingness to go out of their to way keep residents safe by wearing masks and taking rapid tests before their visit. Although our students make regular visits to Louis Brier this was the first time they have visited second-floor residents since the start of the pandemic.
Performers included: Rachel Gerber, Kiera Katz, Jonathan Estok, Ori Haber, Joseph Gabay, Nikki Wiseman, Luca Jeffery, Arel Steen, Joella Pravda, Jesse Millman, Max Kimel, Micah Sacks, Oliver Kraft, and Yair Cohen.

PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE
This week the Grade 8, 9, and 10 students participated in a presentation from MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) on the topic of using substances (Alcohol/Cannabis) and driving. Here is a link to their school presentations. Our presentation was called Final Play. While we realize that these students are not driving yet, preventative conversations help them with decisions that they will be making in the future.
