This Thursday, Ms. Wiesenthal’s Holocaust and Genocide Studies 12 class had the opportunity to hear from Liliane Umuhoza – a child survivor of the Rwandan genocide. Hearing Liliane’s personal story of healing her trauma, as well as her work with other survivors of the genocide gave our class a better outlook on how genocide affects individuals, and how to help them with their personal growth. What I found truly interesting about Liliane’s story was hearing about her involvement with the Survivors Fund, and her process of helping women share their stories and trauma from the Rwandan genocide. I believe that having Liliane speak to our class was an experience we will never forget, and continue to learn from. ~Emma Silber, Grade 12
Other students also shared their reflections from Liliane’s presentation:
“I found Liliane’s story very inspirational, and have taken a lot from her journey and process of healing.” Hannah Kertesz, Grade 12
“I believe that Liliane’s efforts towards uniting women who suffered similar trauma are extremely admirable, and important to hear.” ~Ravid Lapid, Grade 12
“It was incredible to hear about Liliane’s journey of supporting others that went through various atrocities in the Rwandan genocide.” ~David Helper, Grade 11
