RAC WEEK 2022 HAS BEGUN!
On Thursday evening, our talented King David musicians in Grades 10-12 wowed the audience with our RAC Benefit Concert. Staff, students, family members and friends gathered in our Atrium for the first event since the start of the pandemic and it was a truly incredible evening, featuring pop songs, classic rock, R&B, and everything in between. The atmosphere was electric and the performances energetic – it was so much fun for everyone!

We are so grateful to our community for coming out to support our students, and help them raise funds for Israel Homeless Association and Tikvah Housing Society in Vancouver.

To our Music teacher, Johnny Seguin, our thanks for all of his hard work in bringing our students to the stage. The theme for RAC this year, is “You are a Star” and the concert proved that our students and teachers are all stars!

On Friday, we had our kick-off day for RAC week. Students started the day in their TAG groups where our Grade 12 students led them through the day’s first activity: decorating their RAC shirts! Each student used fabric markers to personalize and colour their shirts.

In their TAG teams, with their newly decorated shirts, students went through a series of chesed stations where they exercised acts of kindness that included giving out hot chocolate and cookies to the construction workers at the Oakridge site next to our school and sharing kind acts and words with people from the neighbourhood.

Students then returned to school to share their team experiences over an “Azoombly”.

The day finished with a fantastic BBQ and a “celebrity” basketball game between the Grade 12s and teachers! A big thank you to all our parent volunteers for providing us with such a great lunch.
WHAT A THOUGHTFUL TREAT!!
For the past few years, the traditional Lion’s Den for families has had to be modified due to the pandemic. This year, the Foods 10 students, with the help of some senior Foods students, invited the King David staff to a three-course Korean meal that they so capably prepared and served in an hour! Every staff member received a handwritten note thanking them for all they have done to keep everyone happy and supported over the past two years. It was certainly a much-appreciated act of chesed (kindness)!

Here’s some feedback from some of the Lion’s Den guests:

Thank you to Hilit Nurick and her talented students!

Hilit, you are an amazing, educator, mentor, and leader! Thank you for including us all in such an awesome display of teamwork!

Your students were so proud to serve and present their cuisine. It was such a joyful and expressive experience. Thank you to everyone who helped every step of the way.

Each aspect was wonderful – the food, the drinks, the service and the abundant student enthusiasm!

I worked in kitchens through my twenties. It’s grueling work and is anchored by it’s leader. That was a well-run team and a fantastic meal! What a treat! What a Foods program! Go Lions!

A very special thank you to Marcus Stiller from Fish Cafe. He has been supplying the Lion’s Den with beautiful fish for years and is a great supporter of King David!
ADVICE FROM ALUMNI
On Monday, March 28, our Grade 12 students had the opportunity to hear from King David Alumni. The panel, consisting of seven participants provided our students with insight since graduating from high school. Students heard about the various paths taken and the many opportunities available. The main message was to follow your passions and interests, the next stage is an evolving journey filled with opportunity and excitement.

Thank you to our alumni who shared their post-secondary stories: Ben Chelin (Class of 2020), Justine Balin (Class of 2017), Shay Segal (Class of 2010), Claudia Isserow (Class of 2011), Alex Mogyoros (Class of 2011), Joelle Schaffer (Class of 2016), and Aaron Casseras (Class of 2018).
You’re invited to King David’s Second Annual Golden Thread Gala being held at Congregation Beth Israel on May 12, 2022!
