For their second project this year, motivated by the legacy of Elayne Shaptay z”l, the Chesed Club members decided to support Beth Israel’s annual Coat Drive. Their initiative was a success and they donated a large box of coats.
The Chesed Club members look forward to their next projects organizing volunteers to help out at Louis Brier Home and Hospital, fundraising for the Fraser Valley Crisis Centre, and developing initiatives to lift the spirits of peers and teachers.
Last week, the Grade 12 Independent Studies class took part in a Zoom meeting with Milken High School in Los Angeles. The students began with an ice breaker about their favourite Jewish food and then continued to a conversation around the difference in Judaism in Vancouver and LA. Each student chose a question to answer about their own Jewish individuality and debated about specific Jewish values like whether Judaism is a religion or a culture.
This week the groups met again and will have a discussion next week regarding the benefits of continuing this collaboration.
Our Senior Girls Volleyball team participated in the Sea to Sky Highway “A” Senior Girls Zone Championships on Thursday at Vancouver Christian School.
The team won 1 game and lost 2, but had lots of fun together and displayed great sportsmanship. We will miss our graduating Volleyball players, and wish our Grade 12 seniors, Sara Bauman, Erica Forman, Nitzan Berger, Leiana Kahlon, and Maya Mizrachi, all the best in their future endeavors.
Thanks to Mr. Amram and Ms. Vondracek for all of their coaching this year.
Flooding, mudslides, and strong winds from BC’s recent storm have caused catastrophic damage, forced thousands of people from their homes, and stranded others. While the impact of this storm is still being assessed, its long-term effects are certain.
Our community and our Jewish Federation have a history of responding quickly and generously whenever and wherever disaster strikes. Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver has opened an emergency BC Flood Relief Fund to provide support for those individuals and communities affected in BC.
We hope you will join us in our efforts by contributing to the BC Flood Relief Fund today.
Community is built on solid partnerships like the one between King David and Jewish Federation. Working together enables us to do more.
When you support the community through the Federation Annual Campaign, you can direct 75% of your new gift or increase to King David.
Just type in “King David” on the donation form when you make your gift online.
We are counting on the Federation’s Annual Campaign “plus gifts” to support our work.
