Shabbat Begins: 7:02 p.m.  Shabbat Ends: 8:06 p.m.
With the sun shining brightly on Monday, students were welcomed back to school by teachers and administrators, who had gathered outside to say “Hello”! Grade 12 students were on hand greeting our new and returning students and welcoming them into the building with fun music and cheers from behind their masks.
When the first bell went, everyone moved through the building onto the blacktop outside for an informal welcome assembly. Alex Monchamp, Deputy Head of School, welcomed the students to a new school year (they cheered!) and this year we were treated to the sound of the multiple shofars as blown by Anne Bonnycastle, Assistant Head of School, who joined Rabbi Berger, Head of Judaic Studies, in sounding the shofar!
Students then dispersed by grade to various classrooms for some housekeeping items. Our 52 strong Grade 8 cohort headed to the Atrium and as we do every year, we spent extra time with them, walking them through everything they need to know to get started. They had the opportunity to hear from Matt Dichter, our Social Studies teacher, Lu Winters, our Wellness Counsellor, and Ellia Belson, our Director of Jewish Life and Events, who all helped talk our new students through what their school days would look like, including giving information about their lockers, class schedules, uniforms, technology, and more.

Everyone got into the swing of things very quickly, as you can see in some of our class photos! We look forward to spending this new year with all of you!
King David’s students could really use your help!

We need coaches! If you can coach volleyball, soccer or basketball, we need you! This is a great volunteer opportunity and working with our students is so very meaningful. If you have a friend or know someone able to help, let us know, stipends are available for community volunteers. Don’t wait – please contact David Amram [email protected] at your earliest convenience.
Mazel tov to Shmuel Hart (Class of 2016) and Reut Rappoport on their joyous and spirited wedding at Sakoya Gardens (just outside Jerusalem) on June 15, 2021.

Elated parents—Alexander Hart and Kathryn Selby of Vancouver, and Rabbi Jason and Meira Rappoport of Alon Shvut, Gush Etzion, Israel—are so very proud of the newlyweds.

The couple resides in Jerusalem, Israel, and both are currently studying at Hebrew University.
Shabbat Shalom!
