A SHABBAT SURPRISE

Clockwise from top left: Marlowe Zimmerman (Grade 12), Jake (Grade 12) and Leann Finkelstein, the Shiff/van Messels with Russ Klein, Marie Vondracek and Yoel Sasky (Grade 11), the Altows and Tina Randhawa, Ellia Belson and Richelle Mackenzie, and the Kallners with Russ Klein

Throughout the day, King David staff members have spread out across the Lower Mainland making special Shabbat deliveries to all of our families. The last two and a half months have been incredibly difficult for everyone, but our parents and students have continued to be engaged with our school, as well as being compassionate and supportive members of our King David family.

We wanted to show our appreciation by giving each family a care package of chocolate chip cookies made with love by Rabbi Berger’s wife, Sarah.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Sarah and the
entire Berger family for their tremendous effort in making more than 1200 cookies for our families (especially to Chasya and Riva)!

Thanks also to all the staff volunteers who spent their day driving around and making deliveries!

Q & A WITH RUSS AND ALEX

On Thursday, Russ Klein and Alex Monchamp hosted a Q & A Zoom call for parents to discuss the students’ re-entry into school on Monday, June 1. When parents signed up to join the call they were invited to submit questions, which allowed us to break up the discussion into common themes. The discussions covered why the school was opening with only 2-3 weeks remaining in the academic year, what the school has put in place to enact safety and cleaning protocols, and what students can expect in the school and classrooms when they return. They also discussed schedules (hours of classes), which grades will attend, how teachers will teach students both in class and remotely, how lunch and food in the building will be handled, and how final marks will be calculated. The conversation also covered how parents can best support the school with our re-opening in June and what the the new school year in September might look like!

Relationships matter now more than ever – be it in a business or personal capacity. King David parent, Tanya Schecter, and her business partner, Matthew Gould, have published a book titled Lead from Your Heart: The Art of Relationship-based Leadership and is targeted towards leaders both at home and at work. It covers strategies for improving relationships, working towards a common purpose, and navigating conflict together so that relationships emerge stronger afterwards. The book is available now for purchase on Amazon.

What an amazing accomplishment, Tanya!
