WELCOME TO 2019-2020 AT KING DAVID

What a fantastic summer this has been in Vancouver! The days have been filled with sunshine, providing many opportunities for outdoor activities. And without the many fires that burned in BC last summer, the air quality has been good too! And while I really do not want to disturb these last wonderful days of summer joy, I do want to share with you a warm welcome on our upcoming year.

As the new school year begins, we are thrilled to welcome back our current families and, together, welcome all new families to the King David community. Below you will also find some information on new staff we are delighted to welcome to King David this year.

We have had a productive July and August – the school has been through the usual deep cleaning and is sparkling and refreshed thanks to Jess and Noni, our exceptional custodial team! We have also redesigned and updated the staff room, providing a more comfortable, conducive environment for staff to work individually and collectively! We are ready to prepare and inspire our students to lead lives of significance in a world of unimaginable opportunity. I hope they are, as we are, ready to go!

We have a busy year ahead and two key areas of focus are:
  1. As a school we are working on the CAIS Report Recommendations we shared in June.
  2. Finalizing all plans and breaking ground on our exciting school expansion.
The beginning of a school year always holds such excitement and promise, and on behalf of all of us at King David, I extend my best to you for a wonderful 2019-2020 school year!

~ Russ Klein, Head of School
MEET OUR NEW TEAM MEMBERS

Megan Neary
French Teacher

Megan Neary is joining the King David team and will be teaching French 8-12. She has previously taught French 5-11 and AP Psychology, and looks forward to bringing her passion for the subjects with her to King David. Megan completed high school in IB French Immersion, going on to earn a B.A. in Psychology and a B.Ed. in French at UBC and McGill. She lived in Longueuil, Quebec, for a couple of years and absolutely loved it. For the last four years, Megan has taught at Southpointe Academy. She hopes to share her love for the French language and culture with King David students, making their learning fun, engaging and relevant.

Abby Remick
Post-Secondary, Course, and Career Counsellor

Abby attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she majored in Psychology and minored in English. Abby then completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in experimental psychology at the University of Toronto. After moving to Vancouver, Abby decided to switch directions and pursue a career in university and career counselling. For the past three years she worked with Rasul Learning Group, a private educational consulting group, specializing in undergraduate and graduate admissions. Abby aims to use her knowledge of academia and her expertise in psychology to help students make meaningful decisions about their post-secondary and career goals. Abby is very much looking forward to returning to King David, seeing familiar faces, and getting to know all the students and their families.

Kathy Zhang
Art and Yearbook Teacher

Kathy Zhang completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Education with a major in Arts Education from UBC. Since then, she has had a wide range of professional and teaching experiences. As a practicing artist, she has been represented by Winsor Gallery and Ian Tan Gallery in Vancouver, and has shown her work around the world. She has more than seven years of experience working as an educator, and comes to King David after four years at Collingwood School. When not teaching, she enjoys being active and outdoors. She is very excited for her new role teaching Art at King David!

Stay tuned! The year is just beginning…
