Shabbat Begins: 5:26 p.m.   Shabbat Ends: 6:33 p.m.
Parsha: Ki Tisa: Exodus 30:11-34:35

At King David, we are proud to create graduates who are confident, resourceful leaders and collaborators who thrive academically and are conscientious contributors to their community and the world.

As our alumni explore post-secondary paths and their careers, we want to continue to celebrate their successes as individuals.

Sveta Temirov, Class of 2012

Sveta pursued Mining and Mineral Engineering at UBC, and now works in Australia as a Mining Engineer, actively breaking down gender stereotypes. She says: "The mining industry can be split into two: corporate mining, which is where the big companies make their decisions regarding the many mines they own, and in-the-field mining, which is actively working on the remote sites. Both streams are still very male-dominated, and as a woman, I feel like a pioneer whenever I step on site. When I meet a new crew, or attend another meeting with new faces, people seem to almost unintentionally take a moment to evaluate how they can act around me; it is still foreign for them to see a woman in the industry."

Dahlia James, Class of 2009

Dahlia is a Law student at the University of Ottawa, and according to the university’s Faculty of Law page, "was part of a team that contributed research to a factum submitted for leave of appeal at the Supreme Court of Canada." As a result, the Supreme Court made a decision that "ensures that many persons with disabilities can continue to access vital social programs they rely on to maintain an equal and adequate standard of living."

Katrin Maliatski, Class of 2017

Katrin, second from left, accepts her award from Leonard Gorski along with her team

Katrin is a student in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. She was recently awarded First Place at Fashion Spectrum, a multidisciplinary academic competition about the fashion industry. Of the competition, she says: "Incredible experience being awarded 1st place for Marketing at Fashion Spectrum last weekend with Julia Enright and Chloe Ginsberg. Such a pleasure getting to meet the Founder and CEO of Gorski Group Ltd, Leonard Gorski and learning about his company. So glad I got to meet such lovely people and thank you to everyone involved for your hard work!"

On Wednesday, three UBC students, Yuliya Badayeva, Simran Manhas, and Kalli Leung, gave a presentation to our Grade 11 students. They are a group of women who are passionate about having more young women involved in science. They spoke of their university paths as they navigated their way through the field of Science at university. They also did an experiment with our students to explain how algorithms work in Computer Science. The students were definitely engaged and attentive to the information that they were given!

On Thursday evening, VTT hosted an amazing evening of live music for students, staff, parents, and the community. Many of our wonderful King David musicians, under the direction of Music teacher, Johnny Seguin, took the stage along with the incredibly talented VTT students. A very heartfelt thank you to VTT for hosting and for allowing our students the opportunity to play for the VTT community!

Our Junior Boys celebrate with one of their coaches, Mr. Dichter.

On Tuesday, our Junior Boys Basketball team won their GVISAA Championship! Well done, boys!
