Our students gave a very warm welcome to our visiting CAIS Committee on Monday

After a great deal of preparation and two years of planning, King David had its first accreditation evaluation visit from the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS). From Sunday to Wednesday, a committee of visiting educators and professionals from other independent schools across Canada conducted a review of all elements of the school.

Becoming a CAIS accredited school has been a long-term plan and well in keeping with King David’s ongoing endeavour to continuously improve. For the evaluation visit, the school prepared a multi-faceted report detailing all school practices, from fundraising and building maintenance to Board performance and the educational structure of the school. The committee also met with focus groups of alumni, parents and grandparents, teachers, and students to get first-hand feedback from our broader school community. Prior to this visit, the school also surveyed our various constituents to collect information to include in our overall report. For a report on our Parent Survey, please click here.

The committee spent a good deal of time speaking with every King David employee, from David Kedar, our long-time bus driver, to each teacher and all our support and admin staff.

At the end of their visit on Wednesday afternoon, the visiting committee presented some of their impressions of the school. They were very impressed with the warm, caring feeling prevalent throughout the school, and how our teachers demonstrated care for both their profession and their students; not surprisingly, they thought our students were amazing. One committee member who conducted the student focus group was impressed with how articulate our students were and how effusive they were about their school and teachers.

In a couple of months, CAIS will present a formal report of their findings according to their standards of practice and will make recommendations for where King David might next direct our improvement efforts. Overall, the visiting committee left extremely impressed with how the school has grown in such a short period of time and how we are doing more than one might expect from a school of such a young age; they assured us we are most definitely on the right path. We look forward to their report and sharing key findings.

Even though there were no classes on Friday, many of our students took advantage of the opportunity for extra support from teachers in the lead up to mid-year exams.

King David and VTT will be hosting a "Jam Night" on Thursday, February 21st at 7 pm in the Segal Family Gymnasium at VTT. This is a musical collaboration between the schools showcasing three of King David’s superb rock and R&B bands and the amazing VTT choir, Junior and Senior Bands, and the Alice in Wonderland cast. It promises to be a fantastic evening!
