Notte delle Stelle – A Night of All Stars!

Mazel Tov to Hilit Nurick and her entire Grade 10 Foods team for an outstanding Lion’s Den event on Thursday! With support from Grade 12 students Justine, Adam C., Saul, and Grade 11 students Ben M., Mitchell, Aaron C., and Leah, they created an exceptional and memorable evening. Parents, staff, and community members were impressed by the menu, presentation, and taste of all the dishes. They found it difficult to believe that these were all created by Grade 10 students! Thanks as well to the many other students who acted as hosts and servers, and just ran themselves off their feet in support of our chefs! Kol Ha’kavod to all.

The food service was accompanied by the mellow sounds of the Grade 10 Jazz Band -Gabe on piano, Adam and Landon on guitar, Thiago on drums, and vocals by Noah. Yasher Koach to Music Teacher, Johnny Sequin, for adding to the ambiance for the evening.

"We thoroughly enjoyed the Lion’s Den dinner!  The food was homemade, delicious, and plentiful, the service was amazing, and the live music really set the mood; it felt like we were transported to Italy. Thank you King David Foods class!"

Our Grade 8 students presented their Environment Themed Science Fair projects this Tuesday to their teachers and peers. The Science 8 classes have been working diligently on their projects since early December. Each group had to come up with a question that was of interest to them, design an experiment to answer their question, and communicate their results. The theme this year was helping the environment. Huge thanks to the Physics 11 and Calculus 12 students for serving as judges.

An Unusual Canvas

And it’s complete!

Taking advantage of an opportunity to share their work with students, staff, and the community, Grade 10 Art students embarked on an ambitious mural project last month. The Library construction boarding offered them an ideal canvas on which to share their ideas about individuals as part of a larger community. The piece is called
"Be you. The world will adjust." – the spectrum of experiences has room for all of us. Students conceived of the image, pitched a proposal to the administration, planned for technical needs, mapped the details across the plywood panels, mixed the colours, and finally painted each triangle after laying tape outlines across the panels. Kol Ha’kavod to Lynne, Sarah, Yael, Leora, Arielle S., Katie, and Ellie, as well as to Art Teacher, Wendy Oberlander!

Model UN in Montreal

Model UN Team L-R: Leora, Adam, Braden, Josh M., Katrin, Ben, and Leeor, Grade 12

King David sent a small but dedicated and lively team to Montreal to participate in the Jewish Canadian Youth Model United Nations! The students learned so much about the United Nations, and about how to engage in debate over important issues and take the perspectives of people perhaps very different from themselves. Some team members were successful in proposing and passing resolutions over the issues their panels focused on, and everyone worked very hard to get the most out of the experience. Thanks to History 12 Teacher Amanda Cameron for traveling with and preparing the students for this trip.
