Yom Ha’atzmaut – wow! What an amazing day full of fun and excitement; the energy in the school was unbelievable!

With balloons, streamers, flags, and decorations everywhere, the annual King David Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebration was off to a great start. We had 120 students from VTT and RJDS joining us. Students participated in many different activities set up throughout the school at a variety of stations, all led by our Grade 1students, with
our shinshiniot Maya and Diana. There was a Shuk, Eurovision Music Station, Bedouin Tent, and a Museum for the Visually Impaired, just to name few activities.

A huge thank you to King David parent, Miki Fadida, for making t
he number 70 that students decorated.
Our students put their heart into making the day special, and they were outstanding hosts to their younger guests.

Maytar Fadida and Leah Weidman filmed and created the video below, which was shown during the welcome in the atrium at the start of the morning.

Outside was where the festival was happening: bouncy castles, popcorn, and cotton candy.

The King David PAC parents and Hummus Express prepared an absolutely delicious falafel lunch, which everyone loved! Thank you PAC for providing an excellent meal for 500 people! After lunch, we gathered in the atrium to say goodbye to our elementary school guests with some dancing and yummy truffles covered in blue and white sprinkles. Thank you to Hilit Nurick and her hard-working Foods students for the delicious treats!

The afternoon was special King David student time. Students had time outside on the bouncy castles to themselves (so cool) and then we gathered for an active Maccabathon played in three teams – red, blue, and white! Well done to the white team, who were the winners!

It was a truly great celebration! Thank you to everyone who volunteered and participated, and especially to our students who worked so hard to make it a success under the wonderful leadership of Jewish Life Director, Ellia Belson.

A special Todah Rabah to our sponsors:
Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, Vancouver Talmud Torah, Richmond Jewish Day School, Temple Sholom, Congregation Schara Tzedeck, and Congregation Beth Israel.

On Wednesday, the day before the celebrations of the 70th Independence Day of Israel, we took time to remember heroes, those who sacrificed their lives in order to protect our country, and the victims of terror attacks.

Our Shinshiniot, Diana and Maya, planned a meaningful and moving ceremony. They worked with the students who led the assembly – Liam Greenberg, Grade 8, Ilana Guez and Keren Katz, both Grade 9, Rebecca Laskin, Lynne Altow and Edden Av-Gay, all Grade 11 – and everyone was moved by their words and songs. A special thank you to Maya and Diana, for sharing their personal stories and how they have been impacted by the tragic loss of life in Israel.
