Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar!
Our King David celebration began with students and staff being treated to a delicious barbeque lunch prepared by our wonderful PAC parents. This was followed by a colourful carnival organized and run by Student Council. We were also treated to a clever Purim Shpieel produced and preformed by Grade 10 students.

The Purim Shpieel cast take a bow!

Student Council members took the lead in organizing a school-wide Mishloach Manot activity. Every grade was able to choose pastries, hamentashen, and candies to pack and give with a note to a member of their class. Thank you to the student leaders who directed this activity: Eli, Grade 12, Leah, Elise, both Grade 11, Gali, Noah, Lynne, all Grade 10, Sagiv, Romy, Avrel, all Grade 9, and Nicky, Grade 8.

King David staff joined the spirit of Purim!

This week our Senior Boys Basketball team competed in the BC Boys "A" Provincial Championships in Langley. Our team was ranked 11th going into the tournament and after a hard-fought 2-2 record, the boys finished the tournament in 10th place.
We are very proud of the boys for the work they have put in all season, for playing with exceptional sportsmanship, and always representing our school in the best way possible on and off the court. Congratulations as well to Coach Amram and Coach Dichter for their leadership and dedication and thanks to all the parents for your support throughout the season.

Young Leaders

The Vancouver cohort of young leaders includes King David Grade 10 students
Noah (far left), with Hanah (second from right).

On February 24 I was given the opportunity, along with a group of my peers, to participate in Machane Choref 2017 in Toronto. Machane Choref is a new program launched by Canadian Young Judea (CYJ) bringing leaders of the movement from across the country together for a weekend of leadership development, camp-style programming, and connections.

After going to Camp Hatikvah for so many years it was incredible to connect with other like-minded teens who share similar values, are as passionate about camp as I am, and are now taking on leadership roles in camps around the country. From rewriting CYJ’s values to creating a standardized prayer book for all camps to use, it was a meaningful way to give back to camp and to the next generation of campers.
