68% of King David students played on one or more sports teams this year.
46% of faculty coached a team (or two).

The Heart of a Lion award is presented annually to students who represent our school in athletics with PRIDE. These athletes show admirable qualities such as sportsmanship, teamwork, a positive attitude, persistence, skill, communication, passion, commitment, hard work, improvement, great work ethic, and more.

On Monday, we came together to acknowledge our athletes for the strong showing this year. While we are competitive and like to win, our greatest pride comes from the awards we receive for good sportsmanship.

This year, our teams achieved the following in the Greater Vancouver Independent Schools Athletic Association (GVISSA), BC Secondary Schools Girls Basketball Association, and Lower Mainland Hockey Invitational:

Tackling the Subject of Medical Ethics

Each year, the Judaic Studies 11 class begins to tackle the subject of medical ethics. Wrapping up a section on abortion and doctor-assisted death, William Clark, a King David parent and specialist on medical law, talked to the class about the legal issues, as well as current cases and legislation passing through the government.

"The Grade 11’s have been focusing on Jewish views towards euthanasia and the sanctity of a human life through text from the Torah and the Talmud. Mr. Clark’s presentation offered the modern Canadian view on these issues, and provided the students with opportunities to compare and contrast the Canadian and the Jewish perspectives. With much discussion and questioning, Mr. Clark’s presentation was an incredible addition to our studies. Thank you, Mr. Clark, for your extremely interesting and relevant presentation!"
~ Aimee, Grade 11

"Mr. Clark eloquently explained to us Canada’s views on assisted suicide, which I learned yesterday is now called "physician-assisted death". He explained to us the legal ramifications and the potential solutions. Much like Rabbi Berger, he provided relatable and practical examples that help us see both sides of the story."
~ Eli, Grade 11
Healthy Active Living

This week the Healthy Active Living class has been preparing to go on King David’s first ever Outdoor Education trip. The girls have been learning camping principles and skills, such as leave-no-trace camping, being bear aware, tarp building, tent construction, and safe stove usage. The students will be embarking on an overnight hike to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, BC this Sunday. Stay tuned to upcoming newsletters for an update on the trip, and announcements about the future of our Outdoor Education program.

Thank you to the Jewish Community Foundation and the Snider Foundation for their support of this new King David program.
Happenings at King David

On Monday, our PE 9 Girls went to Musqueam Golf Course for a day of mini golfing. It was a beautiful day for mini golf… and finding out that in golf you actually want to try to get the lowest score!
