The Value of Peer Mentoring
Noah, Grade 9, gives his undivided
attention to a young buddy as
they work together.
Samson, Grade 9, helps to steady a
tile as he and his buddy build a
structure to knock down!
King David students have continued the spirit of our annual Random Acts of Chesed Week (RAC) by volunteering at Queen Alexandra and Jamieson Elementary Schools. Students spend time in various primary grades, Kindergarten through Grade 5, supporting teachers with work the students are doing in their classes. They have helped with reading, math problems, playing games and generally getting to know their younger peers.

This time together has proved to be so rewarding for both the high school and elementary participants and often when it is time to leave, the youngsters do not want to let go of our teens! The teachers have been very appreciative and always comment on the empathy and kindness each of our students display in their interactions with the younger children and with each other.
Climbing Walls

Back Row L-R: Mr. Schein, Oren, Grade 8, Yael, Grade 10, Ana Clara, Grade 8,

Front Row L-R: Isaiah, Grade 8, Dov, Kindergarten at RJDS, Rakeea, Grade 10,
and Romy, Grade 8

On Monday the Outdoor Club visited the Cliffhanger Rock Climbing gym. The students had an excellent experience and showed no fear scaling the 40 foot walls. For students who were not able to join us, we will be doing more climbing later in the term. Stay tuned for more indoor (outdoor) adventures.
Todah Rabah Lian and Tomer!

Working through the clues!
We can do this!

Lian and Tomer, our Shinshiniot (Israeli Emissaries), are discussing Israeli culture and society with the students this month.
"We prepared a scavenger hunt where each station represented one concept in Israeli society or Israeli culture. Each class has been divided into four groups and they worked together to get as many points as they could. We are having so much fun and look forward to doing this activity with all of the classes!"

Thank you to the Jewish Federation for supporting this program.

King David’s Ski and Snowboard Team!

Brendan, Grade 8, displays great style and speed as he heads down the mountain.

The Ski and Snowboard team had another excellent outing last Friday. Both Braeden, Grade 11, and Brendan, Grade 8, performed well in their respective races, showing great potential going into this week’s Terrain Slalom Race. The team includes students from a variety of grades and the time together provides opportunities for inter-grade friendships. Everyone on the team loves to race and all enjoyed the group lessons after lunch.

Ethan, Grade 8, skillfully maintains his balance as he rounds a corner.
Welcome Mr. Sirucek!

Ryan Sirucek has joined King David as a Special Education Assistant. He will be working with Mr. Bondar in the Skills and Resource Centre.

"Growing up on an acreage outside of Calgary, I was able to spend my time riding dirt bikes and playing excessive amounts of hockey. Inspired by the amazing student and architectural atmosphere, I went to Ontario and took Integrated Engineering at the University of Western Ontario. I’ve since traveled to India, learning about the the power of breath and the philosophy of yoga, as well as starting a couple of small businesses. Two years ago, drawn to the beautiful BC coast and its incredible nature, I packed up my things and drove west. I’ve worked with a wide range of students as a tutor and as a part of meditation courses. I look forward to bringing the insights I’ve gained to King David and to be a member of the King David team."

Social Media vs. Reality

Join the King David PAC for a presentation by International Public Speaker, Jesse Miller. Jesse will provide parents with the tools needed to better equip themselves and their children for today’s social media world.

Date: Monday, February 22
Time: 7 p.m.
Thank you to all who have already delivered books!
  Donations are still welcome!

"Our Book Club began when a group of students found their common passion of books back in 2012. We meet weekly to discuss different aspects of literature. We are very privileged to have our wonderful library with a diverse collection of books, and we wanted more children in Vancouver to be as lucky as we are. We are hosting a book drive from February 1 – 12, collecting any good condition books for ages 6-16. All books will go to the Boys and Girls Club of South BC."
