A Successful Sports Season!

Congratulations to our Junior Boys’ Floor Hockey teams for finishing in 1st and 2nd place in the recent 10 team hockey tournament championship. Both King David teams advanced to the finals, where the Grade 9/10 team defeated the Grade 8 team by a score of 3-1. Well done, Lions – 2015 gold and silver medalists!

Congratulations to our Senior Boys’ Floor Hockey team for winning the championship in the recent 6 team Hockey Tournament.  They went undefeated and captured the trophy defeating a very strong Ecole Jules Verne team.

Mazal Tov to Tal, Grade 12, who earned a scholarship from the Lower Mainland High School Boys’ Basketball Association for his outstanding achievement on the court and in the classroom. Tal was one of only six athletes in the Lower Mainland who received this award.  Kol Hakavod to Tal for this excellent accomplishment!

King David’s First Green Day

King David’s first Green Day will take place this coming Thursday, May 28th (10 a.m.Collaborative Day start). The day is designed to encourage all things green: physical fitness, community, food waste, environmental awareness, global awareness, call to action, etc. It also happens to fall during Bike to Work Week! There will be a friendly competition among TAG teams to see which one has the most students coming to school with GREEN actions and a GREEN mindset!

Some examples of how students can earn points for their team include: coming to school on bikes (remember to bring a lock to secure your bike during the day!), walking, bussing or at the very least, carpooling. They can also earn points by wearing green, limiting use of electronic devices, and bringing a waste-free, vegetarian lunch. You can find more details on the rules of the competition and other ways to earn points here

We invite you all to join the King David students and go GREEN!

Book Trailers

Grade 8 students worked in groups to create book trailers during English classes.  The process involved analysing book trailers, and providing persuasive arguments for reading a book using a creative format. In the end, the trailers had to both entertain and persuade. So for those of you who are fans of the Hunger Games series…

English Project - Medium

Over the next few weeks, a variety of book trailers will appear in the newsletter … stay tuned!

Conditioning at Twist

The PE 8 Girls class and the Senior Girls Soccer Team tried out some very fun and high-intensity training at Twist Sport Conditioning with Mrs. Yaxley. The group practised some sport-specific training and participated in a variety of agility, speed and strength drills with professional instructors. The girls had a fantastic time and had some very positive feedback.

Tia, Grade  8, said, ‘I really enjoyed Twist, I thought it was really fun but still challenging.’ Hanah R-D, Grade 8, who went for both PE and Soccer, thought ‘that Twist was an amazing experience and was so much fun. Twist pushed me quite hard and I was very grateful to be there. I also very much liked the drills we did. I thought they were very relevant to soccer and for our fitness. I wish we could go back or at least go once a month!’  This was a great opportunity for our girls to see a high level of fitness to complement our traditional sports and activities. We are planning to go back again next year!

Psychology Research

Students selected topics to research and then presented them during their Psychology class.
Aria, Grade 11, shared her research on Isolationism while Isaac, Grade 12, presented on the Cognotive Effects of Drugs.
