Celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut!

King David welcomed almost 325 students in Grades 4 through 7 from Richmond Jewish Day School, Vancouver Talmud Torah and Vancouver Hebrew Academy yesterday!

Going through customs!

King David was transformed into Ben Gurion Airport and students entered the building through security and customs. After being processed through immigration, they joined their Grade 10 tour guide, enjoyed a falafel lunch and then traveled through Israel. In each city, students participated in a variety of activities. From an IDF bootcamp (in the underground basement because of the rain), Peace talks, Rikud and Music, Cupcake icing, a game of Ga-Ga in the Atrium to Bouncy Castles in the JCC gym, groups of students and their tour guides moved efficiently through the day.

Fun at the JCC!

Ga-Ga Action!

What a day! Considering the rain rolling in after so many sunshine days, and forcing a shift to Plan B, we could not have asked for a happier bunch of students!

Thank you to all our King David students who so capably led the activities and ensured that all our guests felt welcomed!

Our sincere gratitude goes to our phenomenal parent volunteers who so capably fed 500+ people in 45 minutes with the delicious catering help of Shlomo and Hagar Yekutieli. A special thanks to all of our community sponsors and to the JCC who helped make this a wonderful community simcha.

Coping with Stress

A small group session with Shana Lund

Today, our Grade 11 students participated in a workshop led by Shana Lund and Sarah Mellet, two Advanced Practice Nurses in the area of child and youth mental health. In a very straight-forward, engaging and entertaining way, Shana and Sarah spoke about stress and anxiety: what it is, identifying when it is a problem, why people have it, what happens when we experience it, and what we can do about it.

The input from students indicates how very real the feelings of stress and anxiety are for them and they shared at the end of the session how helpful the strategies were that were shared with them.

On May 7, Shana and Sarah will be presenting a similar workshop for parents. Judging on the comments from students again this year, it is not to be missed!

Running in the Sun!

Last Sunday, a contingent of King David students, teachers, and friends participated in the annual Vancouver Sun Run – this year they were fortunate to actually run in the sun rather than the rain that usually accompanies this event. Thanks to all who participated – we hope to see you next year!

Ms. Yaxley, Josh, Leora, Sagiv, Ma’ayan, Yannay,   Mr. Dichter and Jonathan
