Celebrating Tu B’Shevat!

Natasha, Georgia, and Yael making some date jam.

On Wednesday, we had a special program to celebrate Tu B’Shevat! The Grade 8 and 9 students were led by Grade 10 students to compete in a game where they had under five minutes to answer twenty trivia questions. The questions related to one of the seven Tu B’Shevat fruit species and included activities such as grinding barley into flour or crushing dates into jam in order to gain the most points for their team. Every five minutes a bell signaled an activity change until they had completed all six stations. You can tell from the expressions in the pictures, the students had a great time!

Jonathan is closely watched by Ellie with Samson at her side, all Grade 8, as he gets ready to taste date jam!

Grade 10s and 11s were invited to join an ecology walk around the neighborhood. Despite the rain, students enjoyed their time in the natural environment in honour of Tu B’Shevat. The Grade 12 students hosted two guest speakers as part of their  “Rabbi lecture series” in Judaic Studies class.

Rachel, Rakeea, and Magalee, all Grade 9, study the questions.
At the end of the day, the whole school gathered in the Atrium for some Tu B’Shevat music and singing by David in Grade 12, a story from  Rabbi Berger and baggies of trail mix donated and packed by our wonderful PAC parent team!
Happenings at King David

Jamie, Marissa, Max and Talia, Grade 12, along with Ms. Corenblum set up two bookshelves full of donated books, CDs, puzzles, games and puppets for the children of the Aboriginal Mother Centre with which to play and learn. Such an incredible mitzvah! Thank you again to everyone who contributed.

Congratulations to the Bantam Boys Basketball
team for their strong play on Tuesday against
the Regent Christian Royals. The Lions upset the
higher seeded Royals in a very exciting fashion
     (46 – 41)). Way to go team!

You won’t want to miss it!
                         Buy your tickets now!

Alum, Michael Linshits, spent time in the kitchen working with our Grade 10 Foods students to prepare the delicious meal for Lion’s Den. The smells emanating from the kitchen made us all hungry!
