High School Debates

Ben, Maytar, Magalee, and Shea, Grade 9, prepare for their debate.
Debating competitions take place in schools across the world, and last night King David was filled with debate teams from King David, Pacific Torah Institute, Shalhevet, and Torah High in an event sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver. Classrooms were filled with teams of students arguing for and against specific topics!

Ben, Jacob, Avishai and Ross, Grade 8, focus on their strategy

Kol Hakavod to the teams who successfully argued their case and to their opponents who made it a worthy challenge.

Inside Psychology 12

In Psychology class , we had just completed a unit on Nature and Nurture. Mrs. Wiesenthal, our teacher, invited Dr. Pullmer, a psychiatrist, to come and be a guest speaker on the subject as well as to talk about his profession. Listening to  him helped us to expand our knowledge and understanding by giving us a “real life example” of what we are studying.  It was fascinating to learn how his Psychiatric practice affects him both in and out of his work, and also to learn more in depth about the topic of Nature and Nurture.

~ Joelle, Grade 11

Mazal Tov Saul!

Last weekend, Saul, Grade 10, participated in the Canadian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation Provincial Championship at UBC. At this event, he took home two gold medals for Gi and No Gi in the Teen 120-130lb Colour Belt Featherweight Division.

Kol Hakavod on your achievement!
An Alumni Continues to Pay it Forward

We’re proud to share an initiative led by a King David alumna at Carleton University. Vivian Grinfeld, who graduated in 2013, recently started “Feed the Homeless by U” to promote acts of kindness by personally delivering warm meals to Ottawa’s homeless community on a monthly basis. At their most recent event on December 10th, 25 student volunteers gave away 150 lunches to those in need. At this event, they were interviewed by CBC and the Ottawa Citizen where Vivian shared her vision and passion for the project.

In an email from Vivian’s family, they said Vivian was “inspired from the various volunteer opportunities she had as a student at KDHS.” At King David, tikkun olam – making the world a better place – teaches our students their responsibility to others.  We’re glad to know that our students continue to give back to their community well after graduation.
