A Warm Shabbat Welcome!

Shabbat has always been a time for family. On September 5th, we hosted 160 people at a special Shabbat dinner to welcome our new Grade 8 students and their families to our school.

of their families

The Atrium was filled with the wonderful scents of  habbat and everyone was happy to share a special meal. We are a tight-knit community at King David and we all look forward to seeing these students grow up with us in the years to come.

Meet the Teacher Evening

The school was filled with the excited, happy sounds of … parents! Last night, King David hosted our annual Meet the Teacher evening. Parents had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of their King David student. Using a class schedule as their guide, parents traveled to the different classes where they had the opportunity to ask questions and get to know a little more about the content of the courses.

“My son has never enjoyed going to school as much as he has since he started at King David.”

Jewish History – Personal Stories

The Grade 9 Jewish history class was pleased to welcome Naor Baruch and Meytal Zauda, last week. Both the Baruch and Zauda families immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia and the students, who study about the emigration of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, were privileged to hear their personal stories firsthand.

Meytal emigrated from Ethiopia when she was four years old and lived in the South of Israel for the first 20 years of her life. She has 10 brothers and sisters, – she is the 9th and yes, she does remember all of their names! Three of her older siblings set the tone for the family’s immigration efforts by walking through Sudan and setting up a home in Israel before the rest of the family followed.

Naor’s parents emigrated to Israel separately in the 1970s. His father told the Ethiopian authorities that he was going to Israel as a tourist in 1973 and only returned eight years later to get the rest of his family. His mother took a plane from Addis Ababa to Israel in 1978 following a number of arrests. They then met in Israel and married, giving birth to 3 children – two boys and a girl.

Joseph Malina, actor in popular TV shows like the West Wing, The Big Bang Theory, and Scandal.

A graduate of Westchester Day School, Malina has been active in Jewish affairs for some time. He appeared in Jewish Federation of North America’s “Live Generously” campaign, and starred in a video aimed at Jewish high school students, to prepare them for the possibility that they’ll face an anti-Israel climate on college campuses.
