 The Festival of Light!
Leeor and Talya, Grade 8, light the candles on the second day of Hanukkah

At the end of each day, the entire school comes together to light the menorah. The lighting of the candles is performed by a different grade each day. The students share a short story about Hanukkah, recite the prayers, light the candles before we all join in song. Students leave with a sweet treat provided by PAC and the Judaics department.

The Festival of Lights inspires a Festival of Mitzvot

Our students will be performing two mitzvot during the Festival of Lights to bring light to others.

Gifts have been collected over the past few days for Jewish children who are in hospital this Hanukkah.  During lunch students wrote positive messages on cards to the children to accompany the gifts. Thanks to Noy, Grade 12, for coordinating this effort.

We are also collecting clothing and toiletries for distribution to the homeless on the Downtown Eastside. All contributions will be gratefully accepted.

Hanukkah Sameach from our family to yours!

May the Lights of Hanukkah illuminate your homes and bring warmth and happiness to all.

Do you consider the fact that a day’s worth of oil stayed lit for an extra seven days to be a big miracle or a small one? Does it rank up there with the sea splitting or the Nile turning into blood?

Collaborative Cooking!
Max, Grade 11, practices newly learned chopping skills

King David Foods students had the opportunity to work with and learn from members of the JCC Bagel Club Catering team. The team helped prepare the Shabbat dinner for our students attending the Kabbalat Shabbat at school this evening.

Janine, Grade 12, says that it was a special experience.
“I learned so much! I was shown new knife skills and developed an awareness of the importance of attention to detail. The team we worked with highlighted points they took into account that I would never have paid attention to while cooking.”
Bagel Club Catering is a Social Enterprise providing quality catering at affordable prices and opportunities for training and self-employment for adults living with mental illness and other disabilities.

Janine, Grade 12, Shawn, Grade 11, and Kira, Grade 12, closely watch the demonstration

Bagel Club Catering will be catering the Love Boat Themed Party next week, another delicious reason to buy your tickets today!
Grade 8 Music!

Rachel on piano with the Grade 8 band

The Grade 8 Music students demonstrated their talent during a lunchtime performance on Thursday.
Playing current songs, the audience was kept entertained and cheered loudly at the end of each song!

Only two months into the school year and the Grade 8 students are showing that they are well on their way to possibly forming a new school band!

Lucy on piano and Viktor, Daniela, Mitchell and Josh on guitar, provide the sound track for the singers
